Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1900 – 2002) was a member of the Royal Family for nearly eighty years – from her marriage to Prince Albert, Duke of York (the future King George VI) in 1923 until her death in 2002. Her Majesty was Duchess of York (1923 – 1936), Queen Consort (1936 – 1952) and Queen Mother (1952 – 2002). From her first tour of Canada in 1939 until her death she created and developed a special bond with Canadians. This gallery celebrates and chronicles that relationship, focusing in particular on her years as the Queen Mother.
The Fealty Heritage Centre is operated by Fealty Enterprises and is the administrative home of the Canadian Royal Heritage Trust as well as of several other loyal and heritage societies. Within the Centre is the Leo & Mildred Toffoli / Gerald & Phyllis Bousfield Memorial Suite. This two-room space is used for meetings, lectures, receptions and exhibits. The gallery constitutes the framed pictures on the walls and the artefacts and commemoratives in wall-mounted display cases in the suite. It complements the themes presented in the Trust’s museum in Neustadt and its galleries in Belleville and St Thomas in Ontario.
Queen Mother Portraits Display
Framed photographic portraits of the Queen Mother taken at key moments in her long life of nearly 102 years capture the charm and charisma of the woman Adolf Hitler feared as the “most dangerous woman in Europe” but the rest of the world came to know as the “Queen Mum”.
Queen Mother Commemoratives
For half a century (and half of her life) Queen Elizabeth was the Queen Mother. Many celebrations of her life were marked with special commemoratives and her attendance at public occasions in the life of Canada and other parts of the Commonwealth produced both artefacts and commemoratives. These are displayed throughout the suite.
Archives Days
The suite is the venue for regular exhibits drawn from the King Louis XIV Canadian Royal Heritage Archives. Check the News & Events section of this website for dates and contents of Archives Days.
Admission
There is no admission fee to the Canadian Royal Heritage Gallery at the Fealty Heritage Centre but donations are gratefully accepted.
Hours
The Gallery does not have official hours but is open for Trust events and by appointment, or when the Fealty Heritage Centre is open. The Centre operates most weekdays between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., but it is best to check in advance as it often closes for periods during the day.
Location
The Canadian Royal Heritage Gallery at the Fealty Heritage Centre is located in Suite 209 – 3050 Yonge Street (at Lawrence Avenue), Ontario. It is at the Lawrence station on the Yonge Subway Line. For out of city visitors it is reached via the Yonge Street exit south from King’s Highway #401.
The Fealty Heritage Centre is also home to the Canadian Royal Heritage Trust’s Claudia Willetts Branch of the King George III Canadian Royal Heritage Library, to the King Louis XIV Canadian Royal Heritage Archives and to meetings of its Greater Toronto – Hamilton Area Branch of the Canadian Royal Heritage Society.
